Parent Council

by Laurie Hamre, Vice President for Student Affairs

The Macalester Parent Council consists of a small group of parents of Mac students and works to create and support a strong network among parents. The Council, started in 2006-07, meets twice a year, over Family Weekend in October and during a Sampler Weekend in April.

The Council serves as a sounding board for College administration on campus issues and serves in an advisory role to the President and Vice President for Student Affairs. Activities of the Council focus on outreach to all Macalester parents through web based services and regional events and on providing a welcoming presence for new parents on campus. The main objective is to strengthen the relationships between parents and Macalester and among parents themselves.

There are currently two standing committees of the Council, the Parent Outreach Committee and the Campus Events Committee. Both Committees call on parents in various geographical locations for assistance with programs. Other volunteer opportunities and additional information on the Council is outlined on the parent council link found on the Macalester web page.
