Jennifer Awes Freeman is an art historian of the early Middle Ages whose teaching and research interests include iconoclasm, medieval concepts of gender, and the relationship between image and word (especially in manuscripts). In addition to teaching at Macalester this fall, she is Associate Professor and Program Director of Theology and the Arts at United Theological Seminary of the Twin Cities. Her recent publications include The Good Shepherd: Image, Meaning, and Power (Baylor University Press, 2021) and The Ashburnham Pentateuch and its Contexts (Boydell & Brewer, 2022). Her current research includes a project on the relationship between medieval manuscripts and early modern print.
