French Lecture Series Fall '22- Afro-Descendants and Their Political Participation in Belgium: What Are the Stakes and Challenges?

Did the political participation of Afro-descendants in Belgium over the past twenty years modify the political landscape? What are the electoral stakes for the political parties? What are the strategies and claims of diversity candidates? Do representatives of Sub-Saharan origin have a real impact?

Presented by Fatoumata Sidibé. Born in Bamako, Fatoumata Sidibé has lived in Brussels since 1980. She has worked in the fields of journalism, communications, social matters, and volunteer work. She has campaigned for a long time in human rights defense movements. Elected to the Regional Parliament of Brussels for 10 years, she left the political arena in 2019 to take up other challenges. Since then, she remains an honorary MP and she has been granted the rank of Knight in the Order of Leopold. She is also a writer and a painter.
