China's Path to Higher Education: Its Causes and Consequences
Visiting Chinese Scholar Dr. Hongdei Lei will present a talk entitled "China's Path to Mass Higher Education: Its Causes and Consequences." China's higher education system expanded significantly after 1999, rapidly transitioning from elite to mass access in twenty years. In this expansion, political factors exerted a strong influence, economic factors became increasingly influential, and internal factors within the higher education system still needed to fulfill their roles in great detail. The consequences show that China's path to mass higher education continues in the right direction but requires reasonable expectations for implementation to maximize effectiveness.
