Forensics Information Session

Come to the Kagin Ballroom on Wednesday, Sept 6th at 6pm to learn about Macalester's nationally-ranked speech and debate program! This year, our competitive teams include the following:

  • Mock Trial: This 23-24 case is a criminal trial involving an art heist. Teams of six to ten perform as both attorneys and witnesses called to the stand to testify. Mac hosts the semifinal tournament in March and qualified for the national championship last April for the first time in eight years!
  • Ethics Bowl: Teams of six students prepare arguments on fifteen cases for a regionals competition in mid-November. We were crowned the national champions after a final round versus the University of Chicago in 2022!
  • Policy Debate: Teams of two debate a year-long resolution--this year's centralizes United States nuclear policy, including but not limited to the pros and cons of a No First Use policy and full disarmament.
  • Moot Court: Teams of two present arguments in a simulated appellate court for a judge to evaluate and question. This year's case concerns the constitutionality of birth control bans.
  • ModelUN: Students prepare international policy proposals and speeches for a seven-day National ModelUN conference in NYC.
