A Conversation with Ibraimo Alberto - Former Contract-Worker in the GDR

Join GERM 364: "Migration Then and Now" for a conversation with Ibraimo Alberto about his life as a migrant to East Germany, about racism in the East and in the West, and about his current work building bridges between people of different backgrounds. Please note: this event is in German.

Mozambique was still a Portuguese colony when Ibraimo Alberto was born there on a remote farm in 1963. 18 years later, he was among the first African “contract workers” who came to work in the state-owned factories of the GDR. He became a champion boxer, a soccer team organizer, and found his calling in integration work. In 2008 he was officially recognized as “Ambassador for Democracy and Tolerance” by the German government.

If you cannot join in person, please do by Zoom.
