Forensics Information Session #1
Since the College's founding, Macalester students have found intellectual community through competitive speech and debate. In the 1880s, students gathered in literary societies to listen to speeches and debate a wide-range of topics, including whether or not grading should be abolished (The College Echo, 1887). After our first intercollegiate debate in 1911 vs St. Olaf College, Macalester joined a Collegiate Forensics League and students begin receiving credit for their participation in the program (The Mac Weekly, 1914). Throughout the program's existence, Macalester Forensics has won five national championships and trained some of the College's most notable alumni, include Kofi Annan and Walter Mondale.
This year, our program is recruiting students for all five of our different team events (mock trial, policy debate, ethics/bioethics bowl, moot court and ModelUN). No experience is needed! Check out our Recruitment Flyer to learn more about each team!
Our information sessions will be in the Harmon Room (Library) on:
Tuesday, Sept 3rd 6:30pm-8pm
Thursday, Sept 5th, 6:30-8pm
Feel free to come to one of these information sessions to learn more and sign up for the team that's right for you!
