Synopsis:

In the early 1900s, Patrick, the man of the house, hires Dr. Montague, a psychiatrist, to examine his wife, Sara, whom he is convinced suffers from hysteria. However, not all is as it seems, and as Sara tries to grapple with her sense of self and find her stuffed giraffe, the world is ripped apart and plunged into dozens of different landscapes and aesthetics informed by the characters’ emotions. Explores mental health, emotional well-being, sexism, innocence, societal anxiety, and challenging traditional views on art.

The play will be written and directed by Nick Suchomel and has a specific focus on telling stories primarily through emotion. The production will aim to disrupt traditional stylizations to push the boundaries of narrative theater. We’re looking for three primary characters and about four ensemble roles (which will still have lots of non-verbal acting).

Feel free to read the current version of the show script here.

This is a piece that has a place for all manner of skills, with a special focus on gesture and visual storytelling! While dance and/or physical acting experience will be helpful, an openness to different possible techniques is much more important. We're interested in bringing a wide range of perspectives and skills into the process, so if you’re worried about your ability level, don’t be!
