What's in a Title? : A Talk by Kun You

What’s In a Title?: The Emergence of Titles and the Management of Written Information Before the Invention of Paper in Ancient China

Conceptualizing the book form as a communicative technology, Dr. Kun You traces its formational history by revealing the complex phenomenon of titles during the early phase of transmitted books, a perspective often neglected in discussion of literary history. Showing numerous examples of manuscripts from before the invention of paper, this talk hopes to inspire reflection on the role that titles have played in information management in our time.
