The Western Revisited: Colonial Specters in Contemporary Latin American Film

In this powerful presentation, Professor Reyes will discuss how Latin American filmmakers have reimagined the Western to portray both the past and the lasting legacies of colonial violence, through the lens of two films: The Settlers (dir. Felipe Gálvez, 2023) and Eureka (dir. Lisandro Alonso, 2023). A Macalester Native and Indigenous Postdoctoral Fellow, Daniel Coral Reyes is a scholar of contemporary Latin American cinema and literature. The talk will be delivered in English, and desserts will be served.
