Chopin Society Presents Pianist Kenny Broberg
In June of 2017, 24-year old Minneapolis native Kenny Broberg made area pianophiles proud by winning the Silver Medal at the Fifteenth Van Cliburn Piano Competition, no small achievement, as the Cliburn is one of the world's most demanding of all piano competitions. Previously Kenny had won top awards at competitions in Hastings (UK), Sydney, Seattle, and New Orleans. The one-time star pupil of Dr. Joseph Zins in St. Paul earned his Bachelor of Music degree at the University of Houston's Moores School of Music. He is currently pursuing a graduate degree at Park University in Kansas City with 2001 Cliburn Gold Medalist Stanislav Ioudenitch. This is on top of the busy concert schedule that came with his Cliburn prize and has already taken him to many parts of the US, the UK and Italy. Of special note was his appearance with the Minnesota Orchestra this past season, when he stepped in for the ailing Andre Watts to play Beethoven's 'Emperor' Concerto, impressing audience and reviewers alike. In addition to the Minnesota Orchestra, Kenny has performed with the Royal Philharmonic, Sydney Symphony, Seattle Symphony, Dallas Chamber, Fort Worth Symphony, and Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestras. His solo, chamber, and concerto performances have been broadcast on NPR and ABC (Australia) radio. A recording of selections from his Cliburn performances released by Decca Gold (via Spotify, Amazon, and iTunes) in August, 2017, highlights his remarkably versatile and prizewinning musicianship.
"Broberg has remarkable technique, keen musical instincts, and great sensitivity."
- Theater Jones
"Not only did he give the necessary attention to the melody at all times, but his awareness and treatment of the inner voices, or the counterpoint, was amazing."
- KC Metropolis (Kansas City)
