Russian Conference Speaker Ann Komaromi

Ann Komaromi will speak on "Not Everyone Will Be Taken Into the Future": On Kabakov's Characters and the Detritus of Soviet Life as part of the 26th Annual Russian, East European, and Central Asian Conference.

In this talk, Komaromi will look at the way Kabakov’s painting and installation work recall significant predecessors in the Russian and Soviet tradition, particularly Nikolai Gogol and Kazimir Malevich. She will explore Kabakov’s reaction against Malevich’s avant-garde utopian vision. In addition, she will analyze his re-imagination of the Gogolian “little person” located amidst the rubbish of Soviet everyday life.
Catered lunch will be served.  All are welcome.
