It is often said that Africans and African-Americans do not get along. While this divisive narrative lacks historical and empirical weight, it is unfortunately believed by members of these two communities and some of us have been recruited to be echo chambers for this self-destructing message. As people of African descent with a common heritage, it is important that we address this untruth in order to strengthen our collective struggle for freedom and human dignity. Based on historical evidence, this session will debunk the erroneousness of this fallacy by pointing to key examples of movements and leaders who have elevated the importance of our political, economic, and cultural solidarity.
