Conversations About Our Scholarly Lives

Donna Maeda, Dianna Shandy (Kofi Annan Institute for Global Citizenship) and FDIS participants will present “2019 Macalester Faculty Development International Seminar in South Africa. 25 Years after Apartheid: Producing, Masking, and Resisting Inequalities." In January 2019, a group of 14 faculty and staff traveled to South Africa for the Faculty Development International Seminar (FDIS). Funded by the Mellon Renewed Purpose Grant, the group engaged with how South Africa’s particular historical contexts shape its contemporary realities. The group learned about the remaking-of social institutions and relationships, while also considering resonances with the U.S. and re-imagining our own work. FDIS participants will talk about what they learned on the trip to Cape Town, Durban, and Johannesburg. They will talk about individual projects and engage in a discussion about traveling with colleagues for a deep learning experience. All faculty are welcome. Lunch will be provided.
