What Makes the Amazon so Special? An Ornithologist’s View

Ornithologist Dr. Mario Cohn-Haft, whose work is described in Elizabeth Kolbert’s book, The Sixth Extinction, will talk about the threats that confront the extraordinary eco-system of the Amazon, its diversity, unique river-delimited distribution patterns, size, tropical climate, ecological heterogeneity, and fine-tuned specializations.  Dr. Cohn-Haft is Staff Scientist, Curator of Birds, and member of the graduate faculty in Ecology at the Brazilian National Institute for Amazonian Research (INPA) in Manaus. A light lunch will be served.
