Arnold H. Lowe Endowed Lecture: Dr. Liz Bucar
Macalester College Department of Religious Studies presents the 2020 Lowe Lecture with guest speaker Dr. Liz Bucar of Northeastern University delivering the talk "When Progressive Politics Goes Wrong: The Case of Solidarity Hijab."
Liz Bucar is Professor of Religion and Dean’s Leadership Fellow at Northeastern University. An expert in comparative religious ethics who has published on topics ranging from gender reassignment surgery to the global politics of modest clothing, Bucar’s current book project is on the ethics of religious appropriation. She is the author of three books, including the award-winning Pious Fashion: How Muslim Women Dress (Harvard University Press, 2017). Bucar’s public scholarship includes bylines in The Atlantic, The Los Angeles Times, and Teen Vogue.Contact: [email protected]
