Summer Zoom Event Series: Untangling Racial Politics and Ontologies
The Kofi Annan Institute for Global Citizenship, the American Studies Department, and the Latin American Studies Program announce a summer Zoom event series, "Untangling Racial Politics and Ontologies: Local and Global Antagonisms and Possibilities." As the COVID-19 pandemic has forced a radical re-making of how we work and live, what are possibilities for addressing the pandemic of violence against Black and Brown people? The series looks at relationships between anti-Blackness, racism, and colonialism as it considers theory, embodied experience, and action in struggles for justice. The first Zoom event, “The Pandemic of Anti-Blackness,” on July 27, from 7-8:30 p.m., features Duchess Harris, American studies; Bill Hart, religious studies; Brian Lozenski, educational studies; and Kenjus Watson, postdoctoral fellow, San Francisco State University, and adjunct assistant professor, Occidental College. Considering contexts of COVID-19 and the explosion of resistance to police violence, panelists will discuss the significance of understanding anti-Blackness and what this means for possibilities of moving toward liberatory futures. Watch for announcements of future events.
