Anti-racist Parenting Panel and Conversation hosted by the Alumni Board
In December 2020, the Macalester Alumni Board hosted our first Anti-racist Parenting event, which generated robust discussion, enthusiastic sharing, and heartfelt connections. Our virtual event space enabled us to “visit tables” that focused on media literacy, the education system, child health and development, literature resources, and other antiracist parenting topics. During and after the event, we established a list of resources related to anti-racist parenting, and then continued the discussion on the Mac alumni DEI Facebook page.
Building on that first event’s success, this Anti-racist Parenting session will be presented in a webinar format via Zoom, featuring a panel of faculty and alumni. We will hear more from Mac professor Dr. Cari Gillen-O’Neel about her research in the area of anti-racist parenting. Justin Brandon '00, incoming Alumni Board chair and high school principal, will share some of his experiences as an educator, school administrator and parent. Emily P.G. Erickson '08, recipient of a 2021 Alumni Service Award, parent of young children, psychologist, and writer will discuss some of her lived experiences. Kris Amundson '71, featured in Mac Today and recipient of the Distinguished Citizen Award, will share her experiences as a school board member and community activist.
We hope you’ll join us for our second event in this ongoing and important conversation. Don't worry if you missed the first event in December, this is the perfect time to join the discussion! Register at the link below.
