At age 24, Massachusetts native Eric Lu has earned wide critical praise and a loyal following for his mature readings of great repertoire. Winner of the First Prize and Gold Medal at the Leeds Competition in 2018, he made his BBC Proms debut the following summer, and is currently a member of the BBC New Generation Artist scheme. A rising star, he has played in many parts of the world, and toured with the Orchestre National de Lille in 2020. The year before, he replaced Martha Argerich in Singapore, and Nelson Freire in São Paulo. In 2015, as Winner of the US National Chopin Competition, he performed for our series on his way to the XVII International Chopin Competition in Warsaw, where he became a prize-winning finalist. Eric also received the International German Piano Award in 2017 and an Avery Fisher Career Grant in 2021. Now an exclusive recording artist for Warner Classics, his first studio album for the label featured Chopin’s 24 Preludes and Schumann’s Geistervariationen and was named one of BBC Music Magazine’s ‘Instrumental Records of the Month.’ Previous to that, he released a Mozart, Schubert and Brahms disc on Genuin Classics. A graduate of the Curtis Institute, he studied with Robert McDonald and Jonathan Biss, and was also a pupil of Dang Thai Son. Eric is now based both in Boston and Berlin.
