Easter Sunrise Service (Western Church)
Chapel Lawn (Chapel Rainsite), Reception in the lower level of Chapel Rejoice! Rejoice! Rejoice! On Sunday, April 17, the Christian day of Easter is celebrated by the Western Church. Among the most joyful services observed by Christians, the practice of greeting the day at sunrise was begun by Moravian Christians in the 1700’s. Colorful flowers, joyful music, and the refrain of “Alleluia, he is Risen,” herald the joyful news that Jesus lives, stll. Central to the theology of the church, this observance lifts up new life, joyful/playful levity and feasting together. All are welcome at our sunrise service to participate in or learn about this Easter tradition! This 7am service will take place on the Great Lawn, with the Chapel as a rainsite. Come dressed/wrapped for the cool of morning weather. Pastries, coffee, tea will follow the service. A kind way to honor this holiday for others is to say, “Happy Easter!”
