Mac Daily Editorial Guidelines

About Mac Daily

Mac Daily is a Macalester College news publication for the campus community produced and distributed by Communications and Marketing. All current students, faculty, and staff are automatically subscribed to receive Mac Daily via campus email. Mac Daily is published Monday through Friday when classes are in session and twice per week when classes are not in session.

Submissions

Current students, faculty, and staff may submit items using this submission form. Information must be submitted no later than 3 p.m. on the business day before publication. To keep the overall length manageable, in most cases the same item will not be published more than twice.

Content Guidelines

Mac Daily includes:

• Notices of Macalester-sponsored meetings, speakers, events, and opportunities
• News of student, faculty, and staff media coverage
• Announcements from college departments and offices
• Requests for student, staff, and faculty volunteers for campus projects and events
• Institutional information on budgets, college policies, messages from the president and senior staff, college-wide statistics and facts, and notices about advancement activities
• Ads (in the Classifieds section) related to housing or items for sale, and part-time child care or tutoring positions

Mac Daily will not publish:

• Off-campus events and activities that are not affiliated with the High Winds Fund or sponsored by a Macalester student organization or college department
• Commercial advertisements or fundraising ventures
• Links to petitions or requests to sign petitions
• Items that are not broadly relevant to the campus community
• Items that are not consistent with Macalester’s mission and values
• Public showing of movies before necessary permission is obtained from the copyright holder
• Editorial or opinion pieces (other than links in Mac in the News section)
• Campaign items for student government elections

Communications and Marketing may edit items for clarity and length. Submitted items that do not meet Mac Daily content guidelines may be removed.
