Photography Services

Macalester College does not collect release forms from its students, faculty, or staff members for the use of images or films taken on campus. The Macalester community is the best resource for illustrating the life of the college and as a result, images of people publicly engaged in campus life are often taken for these purposes. Members of the community will be informed via signage, permission from an event organizer, or an item in the Mac Daily when a photographer or videographer is present and we will provide easy ways for members to opt out. 

Photographers working with Communications and Marketing capture photos and videos for use in promoting the college. Our criteria for hiring a photographer include: the ability to use shots they take broadly across our communication channels without restrictions, newsworthiness, and broad audience appeal. 

When making requests for photo/video services, please indicate what it is you’d like captured so we can determine if your request meets these criteria. Please provide as much advance notice as possible. Two weeks is ideal.

If your request does not meet our criteria but may be important from an archival perspective or to support the needs of a specific department, we can provide you with a list of excellent local photographers to be paid for with your own departmental budget, help you find images in our photo library, or schedule one of our student photographers at no cost to you.
