Macalester supports several scholarships and awards which recognize the civic engagement efforts and aspirations of students. Several of the endowed awards are given by alums who have given back to the college in order to encourage students in their community involvement work.
- Action Fund
The Action Fund supports civic engagement projects proposed and led by students in direct collaboration with local community-based organizations. The projects all have action components, fulfilling unmet needs of Twin Cities’ communities, as well as learning/education components that promote reflection on and sharing of lessons learned. The students leading the projects recruit other students to be involved, and they may apply for up to $2,500. - Davis Projects for Peace
Davis Projects for Peace is an initiative for all students at the Davis United World College Scholars Program partner schools to design their own grassroots projects for peace that they themselves will implement anywhere in the world. Through a nationwide competition, projects are selected for funding at $10,000 each. - Senior Service Awards
Each Spring cash prizes are awarded to graduating seniors that have have made a significant impact in the community demo. Students are recognized at the annual Honors and Awards lunch. - Phillips Scholarship
The Phillips Scholars Program supports potential leaders with outstanding academic credentials who intend to dedicate a portion of their lives to community service. Six competitively selected Phillips Scholars are eligible to receive a junior-year scholarship, a $4,000 summer award to support the development and implementation of a self-designed service project to address unmet needs in Minnesota communities, $400 from the project resource funding and a senior-year scholarship contingent on the successful completion of the summer project. - Global Citizenship Student Award
Presented annually by Macalester College and the Institute for Global Citizenship to the graduating senior who best demonstrates a commitment to the ideals and practice of high academic performance, internationalism, multiculturalism, and civic engagement.
