During the summer of 2010, Professor Bradtmiller participated in a Keck Geology research trip with Kelly MacGregor (Geology) and two Macalester students, as well as students and faculty from several other institutions. The group spent two weeks in Glacier National Park collecting water and sediment samples from several glacial lakes in the Many Glacier Valley. Professor Bradtmiller worked with the two Macalester students on projects using lake sediments to reconstruct past vegetation changes in the valley, as well as the fire history of the region.
Professor Bradtmiller is currently in the second year of a 3-year NSF grant to study changes in the chemistry of ocean sediment cores taken near the northwest African coast. She is working with students to determine how biological productivity in this region of the ocean may have changed over the past 15,000 years, and how those changes are related to past changes in climate.
