GI Bill®/Yellow Ribbon Benefits
Macalester College participates in the GI Bill® and the Yellow Ribbon program.
The Post 9/11 GI Bill® pays for tuition and fee charges at eligible institutions of higher learning. The tuition and fees cap covered by the Post 9/11 GI Bill® for the 2022-23 academic year is $26,381.37. Once that amount has been disbursed by the VA, any remaining tuition and fee charges for that term or subsequent terms are then eligible for the Yellow Ribbon Program. Macalester has committed to provide up to $12,500 of that remaining Yellow Ribbon-eligible tuition and fee charges, which is then matched by the VA. Post 9/11 GI Bill funds are distributed by the VA in the fall and funds are applied to fall semester tuition and fees, so it is likely that most Yellow Ribbon funding will be applied to spring semester tuition charges.
The Financial Aid Office serves as the campus liaison with the Veterans’ Administration. Leurseng Chang is the Designated Officer for signing official VA forms related to eligibility and certification of enrollment for benefits. If you have any questions, please email Leurseng Chang or call 651-696-6214.
In compliance with the requirements of 38 USC 3679(e), Macalester requires VA benefit-eligible students to submit a Certificate of Eligibility to the Financial Aid Office, along with any additional documents requested, before any benefits can be disbursed. Our forms are processed at the regional office in Buffalo, NY (Veterans Administration Educational Benefit, P.O. Box 4616, Buffalo, NY 14240-4616). Macalester commits not to impose any fees related to late VA benefit disbursement. More information is available on a separate page about our delayed payment policy.
Macalester also complies with the requirements of the Johnny Iskason and David P. Rose, M.D. Veterans Health Care and Benefits Improvement Act of 2020.
Most answers to questions concerning your individual benefits and certifications can be found at the VA’s GI Bill® page. The GI Bill® Comparison Tool provides information about college affordability and brings together information from more than 17 different online sources and three federal agencies, including the number of students receiving VA education benefits at each school.
