In their Senior Thesis exhibition, Macalester College’s 2022 Art Majors showcase projects which find common thematic ground focusing on the present moment in contrast to lingering in the past. Their exhibition title, emergence, is a signifier of their shared optimism and collective shock as they move forward from darkness marked by the pandemic to a brighter future.

Projects in the exhibition include visual investigations of our cities, real, utopian, and lost; portraits and landscapes of personal histories and traumas; environments for self and non-human sanctuary; and material explorations and vessels for identity.
