Hello! My name’s Rob (he/him), and I’m a geospatial analyst, data scientist, and developer based in the Phillips area of Minneapolis who works at the intersection of computational science, community geography, and environmental justice.
With two degrees from the University of Minnesota – Twin Cities (B.S. in Mathematics, Masters in Geographic Information Science), I’ve always enjoyed studying new mathematical concepts and numerical methodologies. What interests me the most, however, is taking these abstract ideas and applying them to the modern day.
Recently, I’ve been focused on mitigating harm from air pollution in the Twin Cities Metro but have also done projects related to ecology, environmental resource management, transportation, economics, and demography (a few examples are posted here).
To me, GIS technologies and spatial thinking are the perfect tools to tackle our most pressing societal issues. As an educator I structure presentations, assignments, and discussions around this notion with the ultimate goal of letting students explore these concepts as they relate to their own interests. Always happy to reword a definition or revisit a topic to support this process – think of me as a guide for one leg of your Geospatial Journey!
