Macalester Geography Award for Excellence of Scholarship

The Award for Excellence of Scholarship is awarded annually to an outstanding senior majoring in geography.  Criteria used in identifying nominees include: academic performance, GTU membership and participation, departmental service, dedication, and enthusiasm. The recipient receives a book selected especially for them by the department faculty and a $200 prize.

Hildegard Binder Johnson Award in Geography

Named after the distinguished founder of the Macalester College Geography Department, Hildegard Binder Johnson. Presented to academically outstanding junior Geography majors. The recipients each receive a $200 prize.

David A. Lanegran Award in Geography

Named after the department’s longest serving faculty member, presented annually to senior geography majors in recognition of their significant contributions to the community life of the department. The recipients receive a book selected especially for them by the department faculty.
