Celebrating 2024 Graduating Seniors

Eunice Choi

Hello 🙂 I’m Eunice Choi and I’m from Los Angeles, California. I’m a geology major with dual minors in biology and studio art. I, like a lot of people, did not expect to get into geology but it wasn’t until I took Alan’s Geohazards class did I get interested in the field. Pursuing the major was a great decision as I found myself having so much fun in the classes and getting to know all the awesome people in the department.

My capstone is an extension of a similar project I did in Ray’s Paleobiology class and involves a combination of my major and minors; I created an original scientific illustration of the once-living fossil community in Rockford, Iowa. Through this project, I spent so much time with brachiopods that I’m considering getting a brachiopod tattoo at some point.

I’m currently planning on taking a gap year to apply to grad schools and figure out the next steps in life. I’m so grateful for all the amazing opportunities and experiences I’ve had in this department, and I’ll treasure the wonderful memories <3

Maggie Morgan

Hi! My name is Maggie Morgan (she/hers) and I am a geology major and biology minor from Madison, WI. I never planned on being a geology major, and only first took a geology class because I didn’t get into the more packed environmental science classes. But after taking the geology intro classes I ended up loving the professors, students, and amazing fun trips we’ve gone on throughout my time in the department. The department and major really helped me explore outside of the Twin Cities, and even to Chile during study away!

After graduation, I am planning on heading to Montana for the summer to work for a fisheries research group and help do stream and lake surveys. Before going back to school in a couple of years, I hope to explore more fields of hydrology and snow science after becoming more interested in seasonal snow through my capstone project. But who knows what I’ll do, we’ll have to see! Overall, geology is the best and I’m so grateful for my time spent with everyone in the department these four years 🙂
