We’re looking for workers who can be punctual, consistent in the enforcement of rules who enjoy working with children individually and in groups who are open to being trained in techniques of conflict resolution. Qualifications: Meets Minnesota Department of Education criteria*; fluent in German; and experience in an educational setting. The qualified candidate will have a flexible approach, able to follow the directions of the classroom teacher and special education teacher.

CBYX is sponsored by the US and German governments for applicants in all career fields between the ages of 18-24, and does not require any prior German language knowledge! Applicants in business, vocational, technical, engineering, scientific, and agricultural fields are especially encouraged to apply.

75 participants are annually awarded the CBYX fellowship to spend a year studying and working in their career fields while completely immersed in German language and culture. For more information visit www.CBYX.info.

The CBYX for Young Professionals fellowship includes:

• two months of intensive German language training (prior German language knowledge is not required, but preferred)
• four months of study in the participant’s career field at a German college or university
• five-month internship in the participant’s career field with a German company
• accommodations living with German hosts, in shared apartments, and in student dorms
• transatlantic airfare and monthly food stipends
• health/accident insurance
• various program seminars in the United States and Germany
• support throughout the program year by local program representatives

Eligibility:

• US citizen or permanent resident
• between the ages of 18-24 at the start of the program
• high school diploma or equivalent
• clear career goals and some relevant work experience in career field
• strong interest in German and international affairs, and a strong sense of American identity
• flexibility, independence, and diplomacy

In order to gain a deeper understanding of the opposing perspectives and positions at play in contemporary geopolitics, it is crucial to place strong emphasis on intercultural exchange and the transmission of cultural values. DAAD and the renowned Freie Universität Berlin (named in 2007 as one of the nine “universities of excellence” in Germany) have therefore developed this unique new program to provide outstanding young journalism students – who may themselves come to have a significant influence on international opinion-shaping – with an opportunity to immerse themselves in the society, culture, values, and political attitudes in Germany. During this time of transition and change in transatlantic relations and the German-American relationship, this program will expose American students with a particular interest in Germany to the changing global political circumstances on location in Germany. The program consists of two complementary segments. The first six weeks will be spent at the Freie Universität Berlin, where participants will expand their academic understanding of the politics, society and culture of Germany, and the country’s current social conditions and media scene. With these theoretical building blocks in place, participants subsequently embark on an intensive five-week internship with a German newspaper, (online-) magazine, TV or radio station. During the academic part of the program they will do an one-week educational tour within Germany with journalism students from the Independent States of the former Soviet Union.

The Steiner Program at the National Yiddish Book Center offers college students a tuition-free, seven week immersion in Yiddish language and culture. Students study the Yiddish language, the Jewish culture and history of Central and Eastern Europe and America, pursue a research or translation project, and delve into the Yiddish Book Center’s comprehensive collection of Yiddish literature.
Six undergraduate college credits will be available through the University of Massachusetts. Limited housing subsidies are available, based on need. The Steiner Summer program runs from mid June to end of July, and is open to all full-time university students. Please note: Students who are not enrolled in a degree-granting program as of January 1st of year of participationare not eligible.

provides students at US colleges and universities with the opportunity to complete professional internships in Germany. Paid placements are available in business/finance, general administration, tourism, IT, engineering and a variety of other fields. Internships for liberal arts majors are also available, but are likely to be unpaid (history, nonprofit sector, media, international relations, German studies, etc.). Three program options are available: 1) a 1-month language course in Germany in June, followed by a 2-month internship with a host company, 2) a 3-month internship with a host company, 3) a 2-month internship with a host company, starting in late-May or late-July. The Summer Internship Program in Germany will provide participants with valuable work experience, help improve their German language skills, and allow them to experience German culture firsthand.

Eligibility: US citizenship; non-US citizens must be enrolled students at a US college or university before, during and after the program
-Maximum age is 30
-2 years of post-secondary instruction of German (or equivalent)
-at least 2 years of study at a university/college completed

Fulbright-Hays and DAAD (German Academic Exchange Service) Study and Research Grants are available for postgraduate work in virtually any field of study in German and Austria after graduation. Additionally, the Fulbright Program awards teaching assistantships for recent graduates to assist in English language instruction in German and Austrian schools. Seniors interested in applying for these grants should contact the Academic Programs office at the beginning of fall semester for information on the application process.
