Kayla Schuchman

Kayla Schuchman was appointed Assistant Commissioner, Single Family, at Minnesota Housing effective January 2022. As Assistant Commissioner for Single Family at the State’s Housing Finance Agency, Kayla leads a division of approximately 60 staff who finance homeownership counseling and education, first mortgage lending, downpayment assistance, and home improvement loans; resulting in over $1 billion of production annually.
Prior to Ms. Schuchman’s appointment to this role she served as the Housing Director for the City of Saint Paul, working under Mayor Melvin Carter’s leadership. Prior to that Kayla worked as an affordable housing developer at CommonBond Communities. Ms. Schuchman’s previous
experience includes nine years in multifamily affordable housing finance in roles with successive
responsibility at Minnesota Housing, including managing the State’s Low Income Housing Tax Credit Program which generated approximately $100 million in annual equity for affordable rental housing development. Prior to that, Ms. Schuchman held positions as a Senior Financial Analyst and Budget Analyst at Minneapolis Public Housing Authority.
Ms. Schuchman holds a Masters of Public Policy from the University of Minnesota’s Humphrey School and a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Economics from Macalester College, Saint Paul, Minnesota. Ms. Schuchman holds a Housing Development Finance Professional certification through the National Development Council, has served as a director on several nonprofit boards and was named a 40 under 40 by the Minneapolis/Saint Paul Business Journal in February 2021.
