Leonard Center Community Memberships

The High Winds Fund at Macalester College provides an opportunity for some of our closest neighbors to purchase a membership to the Leonard Center through our Community Membership program. This program opens for registration each April for the following academic year.

You must live within our close neighbor boundary for eligibility: your primary address must be located between the south side of Ashland Avenue and the north side of Jefferson Avenue and between the east side of Fairview Avenue and the west side of Pascal Street.

The registrations for this year have closed. Please check back with us in late March or early April for the ’25-’26 academic year. If you are interested in a Library Only Community Membership, please follow this link.

  • More information on the Leonard Center Community Memberships:
  • Annual membership runs from June 1 through May 31.
  • The LC Community Membership annual dues for the ’24-’25 academic year: $500 per individual (price is subject to change).
  • New members will need a new Macalester ID card to access the building. There will be a one-time charge of $25 for processing the new card. There is a $10 charge to replace a lost Macalester ID card.
  • The LC is shared by many and the primary focus is our Macalester students and ensuring a great student experience. As a Community Member, we appreciate your sensitivity to the timely use of equipment by our Varsity athletic teams and other Mac students.
  • The Leonard Center is staffed by students and hours are subject to change, especially during academic breaks and large festivities such as Reunion Weekend. Please check the Leonard Center website for current facility hours. The pool hours are extremely limited and change often as they are dependent on limited lifeguard availability and reservations for team use.
  • LC Community Members are required to follow the Macalester Covid Shared Community Commitment as if they were an employee of the College. Details of this Community Commitment are listed on the website and will be confirmed in the membership application process. You will also need to agree to the Liability waiver as well as the Policies and Procedures of the LC.
  • You will automatically have access to the Macalester Library with your new ID card. Please see the Library website for updated library information. Library access for Community members will end at 8pm during the academic year so our librarians are able to focus on our students.

FAQ

  • Do you have a waiting list? We no longer keep a waiting list. If you do not get in this year, please check the High Winds Fund website in April or May next year for the date and link for new membership registrations.
  • Families? Children? Unfortunately, Family memberships are not available for Community Members. Children ages 16 and older are eligible for individual Community Memberships.
  • Guests? Trainers? Unfortunately, outside Trainers are not allowed for the Community Memberships. There may be an opportunity to contract with the Macalester Athletic Training Staff. If you are interested, you may inquire at the desk in the weightroom. It is possible to host a Guest every now and then for a special reason. All guests must be pre-approved by the Athletic Office.
  • Is my membership refundable or transferable if I don’t use it? We can’t refund or transfer memberships. Please be aware that this is a busy facility and think carefully about the time that you will be able to use your membership before you join.
  • Why are the number of memberships limited? Our first priority is our students. We recognize that although we have some capacity to share our space, it is limited.
  • If I can’t get an LC membership, could I still get a Library Card? Yes! You will be able to sign up for Library Access. Check out the details on their website for Community Member registration information.
