Payroll Employees are paid either biweekly or monthly. In general, hourly staff are paid bi-weekly and salaried staff and faculty are paid monthly. Refer to the Payroll Calendars below for additional information.

Time Off Macalester acknowledges that, from time to time, employees won’t be able to work for various health, family, or personal reasons. To help navigate this process, we’ve made available information on the different reporting options, types of time off, and leave structures.

Benefits Through our benefits programs we strive to support the needs of our employees and their dependents by providing a benefit package that is easy to understand, easy to access and affordable for all our employees.
Employees with an FTE of .50 or greater may enroll in Macalester’s Employee Benefits Program. Benefits will be effective on the first of the month following their date of hire.
If you are benefits eligible, you will meet with a member of the Human Resources team within your first week of hire to review benefits options and the enrollment process.

Navigating Campus This interactive campus map will help you find your way around campus. It shows you where to find campus buildings, parking, and accessibility features.
If you need to meet with Human Resources on your first day to complete new hire paperwork, you can find us in the 77 Mac Building on the 2nd floor. Access to the building is by key card only – please call Human Resources at 651-696-6280 for access.
Macalester maintains a number of parking lots on campus which can be found on the campus map. Community members who wish to park on campus should submit an online parking application. There is no cost to park on campus. Additionally, street parking is also available. Additional information can be found on the Public Safety website.
The online Directory is a great resource to find contact information and campus location for departments, offices, faculty, and staff.
The A-Z Index is another resource to find information about departments, programming, policies, and campus resources.

Required Training All new hires must complete the trainings listed below. You will receive a separate email invitation from our partners for each of these trainings.

- Employees will also receive monthly Information Security trainings from our partner InfoSec (sent from [email protected])
- Additional trainings may be assigned dependent on role

Get Involved! There’s lots of ways to involved and connected on campus – a few are listed below. Talk to your manager or the listed contact about how to get involved!
New Hire Orientation – New Employees will receive an invitation to a half day in-person New Employee Orientation within their first 30 days of employment. This is the perfect way to learn more about Macalester history, our mission and values, the student population, get a tour of the campus, and learn about major initiatives and upcoming events. You’ll also get to meet fellow new employees and have lunch with members of Senior Leadership. Attendance is highly encouraged.
Affinity Groups – Staff and Faculty affinity groups are a place where staff and faculty with similar identities can come together in community. These groups welcome staff and faculty who hold these identities, as well as allies focused on centering the named identity and recognizing intersectionality brought to the space. These groups meet regularly at the discretion of each group.
Committees – There is a variety of committees for staff and faculty to participate in as a part of our shared governance model.
The MacDaily – The daily email that keeps the whole community updated about important information, events, announcements, recognition, and pretty much anything you want or need to know. Make sure to read it daily so you don’t miss out!
