Policies: Reserves
Reserve Materials
Circulation of Reserve Materials
All faculty, staff and students with a valid, barcoded ID may check out reserve material. Loan periods for reserve items are 4 hours, 8 hours, 24 hours, 48 hours, or 7 days.
One reserve item may be checked out at a time; this is because of the nature of the collection (high demand and low supply). Within two hours of the library closing, one item may be checked out overnight, but it must be returned when the library opens the following morning. Replacement costs for lost books, reprints, CDs, and DVDs are the same as for books in general circulation.
Fines
Patrons are responsible for the timely return of all reserve materials. Overdue fines apply to reserve materials at the rate of $.25 per hour. For all items on reserve, a first email notice will be sent out 1 hour after the item becomes overdue. A second notice will be sent out after the next 24 hours, and the final notice 24 hours after that. Lastly, the billing notice will be sent out 24 hours after the final notice. If an overdue item generates a billing notice, and the material is returned after this time, a $5 fine will remain on the patron’s account and is not refundable. Reserve items not returned will generate a $65 charge.
Holds
Holds may not be placed on Reserve material.
Renewals
Reserve items may be renewed only if there are other copies of the title available and for the same checkout period. Reserve items may not be renewed online, by telephone or email. Materials must be present at the Service Desk to be renewed.
