Mackenzie Stern is a professional musician and administrative assistant newly moved to the Twin Cities! With her degree in music education, Mackenzie began her career as Assistant Director of Choral Activities at a large metro high school in Iowa. Choirs and show choirs under her direction received Superior and Excellent ratings at state contest and several top three finishes at competitions. She then translated her love for musical instruction to a private voice studio, where several of her students were accepted to the Iowa All State Choir in addition to finding success with auditions for everything from musicals to college applications. Alongside this work, Mackenzie built a copy editing and administrative assistant business for multiple clients. Her clients occupy both artistic and educational fields, making the arts as well as service to others a through line in her work. Mackenzie is also an experienced soprano, having sung with three Des Moines area choirs as a member and featured soloist and looking forward to joining the professional ensemble The Singers – Minnesota Choral Artists this year.
Mackenzie is an alum of Wartburg College in Waverly, Iowa. She graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Music Education. Mackenzie was a member of the Wartburg Choir and also active on the stage, with roles in the Opera Workshop’s performances of Kiss Me, Kate, Gianni Schicchi, and The Pirates of Penzance. She presented her research on vocal health during RICE Day, a campus-wide exposition on student work. She maintains a professional membership with the National Association of Teachers of Singing.
A native of San Antonio, Texas, Mackenzie has made her home in Mendota Heights with her husband Elliott, who hails from Eagan, Minnesota and is also a music educator and a Wartburg graduate. She enjoys reading, painting, and fighting the good fight against all of the fur from their beautiful cat, Lily, and their snuggly dog, Boo.
