Café Mac Tour: Navigating Food Allergies and SensitivitiesRuth Stricker Dayton Campus Center, Café Mac
Brought to you by the Disability Resource Center and Café Mac leadership. Learn about inclusive food accommodation practices available to students dining on campus. This orientation event is for students and parents/guests who manage food allergies, celiac disease and medical diets. The event includes a tour of Café Mac that highlights need-to-know information: where to find ingredient labels at each food station, sourcing gluten free items, and a discussion of food safety practices. A question and answer session with General Manager Amy Tomes and Executive Chef Chad Plotnik will be part of the tour. Staff from Disability Services will be available to talk with students and families individually after the event.

Students will learn how the CEC engages with community partners to build mutually beneficial partnerships, honor community knowledges, and uphold decolonial and anti-racist practices. This trauma-informed session is focused on empowerment and respect and will cover topics of sexual health and misconduct. With this content warning, please prioritize personal wellbeing at this time and reach out to your Orientation Leader with any questions or concerns.
At Macalester, we believe in creating a culture that values everyday consent, healthy relationships, and bystander intervention. In this session, we’ll explore sexual respect, helpful resources, and options for response. - Located in the Twin Cities, Macalester College is in the heart of a thriving arts community, with more theatre companies per capita than any other city in the country besides New York City. Students can attend performances at prominent companies such as The Guthrie; Jungle Theater; Children’s Theatre Company, the largest theatre company for multigenerational audiences in the United States; and Penumbra Theatre, one of the most influential African-American theatre companies in the nation. The Theater and Dance Department regularly brings its students to professional productions in the Cities, and faculty and alumni regularly work professionally on area productions. Macalester students often have the opportunity to meet influential local alumni, leading to exciting and unique opportunities for internships, mentorship, and collaborative projects. In this workshop, Theater and Dance Department faculty offer a backstage view into opportunities to attend performances at Twin Cities venues, with information on how to access subsidized tickets and transportation. Information about how to get involved with the on-campus Theater and Dance Department will also be shared.
