Ad Hoc Trustee Committee formed to consider student Mac for Palestine proposal

I write to share that an Ad Hoc Committee of the Board of Trustees has been formed to review the proposal created by the student group Mac for Palestine calling for divestment of Macalester’s endowment assets from several companies.

As a reminder, I wrote on June 10 to inform the campus community that the Social Responsibility Committee (SRC) had submitted a report to me, recommending that I forward the Mac for Palestine proposal to the Board of Trustees for consideration.

Board of Trustees Chair Carrie Norbin Killoran ’94 P’27 appointed the following Trustees to serve on the Ad Hoc Committee of the Board: Decker Anstrom ’72 (Chair), Karen Brasel ’87, Liz Hume ’92, Seth Levine ’94, Sonny Lulla ’93, Tyler Robinson ’93, Greg Thompson ’84, and Zia Yusuf ’91. I am grateful to these Trustees for their willingness to serve on the Ad Hoc committee.

The committee met for the first time on July 8 and it plans to provide opportunities for members of the Macalester community to share feedback on the proposal.  Details about those opportunities will be shared via the Mac Daily and through the Mac for Palestine proposal portal on the college website.

I welcome any questions.
