Students intending to complete an independent project or tutorial must have this form completed by all offices involved prior to the published deadline. Registration is not complete until this form is received in the Registrar’s Office. Therefore, you should aim to complete this several days before the deadline to allow all parties time to sign and send along the form.

Independent study is only available to current Macalester students who have not yet earned their degree.

The student and the faculty sponsor should work together to plan all aspects of the course, including work to be completed, timeline, learning goals, and basis for evaluation.

Deadlines:

Fall/Spring Terms: published add/drop deadline, preferably earlier.

January Term: December 15th

Summer Term: May 15th
