Lavender Graduation

Lavender Graduation is an annual celebration hosted by the Lealtad-Suzuki Center for Social Justice in honor of Macalester’s LGBTQIA2S+ graduates. Lavender Graduation ceremonies have long been held in recognition of the academic, social, and activist achievements of queer & trans* students while acknowledging the challenges they’ve encountered while accomplishing these feats. Due to the range of comfort levels around publicly identifying as a member of the LGBTQIA2S+ community, students are provided with a variety of ways to participate and/or be recognized. The ceremony is held the week preceding Macalester’s main Commencement, and features music, speakers, and celebration. Rainbow lapel pins are available for graduates, as well as rainbow tassels for those who would like to affix one to their graduation cap.
