Rites of Passage

Rites of Passage is an annual graduation ceremony hosted by the Lealtad-Suzuki Center for Social Justice, which recognizes and honors the contributions of Macalester’s graduating BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, Latinx/Latine, Asian) students and their families and friends. Typically held the day before Macalester’s main Commencement ceremony, Rites of Passage includes the bestowing of a ceremonial stole, speakers and musical performances, and an opportunity for graduates, families, and friends to celebrate this important milestone in community.
