Claudia Giannini holds a degree in Modern Languages from the Universidad Central de Venezuela, and a degree in Hispanic and Luso-Brazilian Literatures and Linguistics from the University of Minnesota. She previously taught at the Universidad Central de Venezuela, St. Olaf College, and the University of Minnesota. Her areas of interest are cognitive linguistics, pragmatics, semantics, discourse analysis, translation, applied linguistics, and intercultural communication. She is currently researching the linguistic, pragmatic, and philosophical challenges of machine translation. She has studied five languages and has worked as a translator for more than two decades; these experiences, combined with her teaching career, have inspired a particular interest in the connection between language and thought and the role intersubjectivity plays in linguistic communication.
