Daniel Coral Reyes is a scholar of contemporary Latin American cinema and literature. Combining film and literary criticism with historical analysis, Daniel’s research reflects on the ethics of memory and representation in contemporary Colombian cinema in the context following the 2016 Peace Agreement between the government and the guerrilla group FARC-EP. More specifically, his scholarship analyzes how independent films engage with the challenges of the transitional present by charting collective traumas that were previously marginalized in public discourse, from regions such as the Amazon and Valle del Cauca. Essential to his research and teaching are the intersections between distant historical memories in Colombian and, more broadly, Latin American cinema.
