Born in Granada, Spain, Teresa received her BA in journalism from the Universitat Autonoma de Barcelona, MA in Hispanic Literatures from Universitat de les Illes Balears, MA in Women’s Studies from Mankato State University, and is ABD for the PhD in Latin American Literatures and Cultures with a minor in Feminist Studies from the University of Minnesota. Her dissertation is titled Ethics of Alterity, Feminism, Subalternity and Representation.
Her teaching and research interests include contemporary Latin American literature, especially women’s writing, subaltern studies with an emphasis on US Latino and Latin American testimonial and cultural production, feminist theory, Chicana/Latina feminism, and the ethics of research with immigrant communities.
Her approach to teaching has evolved throughout the years, from a more traditional model to a community-based learning approach, incorporating digital storytelling, service learning, action projects and oral histories within the Latino community.
Currently she is Chair of the Board of Directors of Centro (formerly known as Centro Cultural Chicano). She is also involved with the Immigrant and Refugee Women for Change Coalition.
