Sample Key Performance Indicators
The Imagine, Macalester strategic plan was developed with an eye towards making and tracking strategic institutional changes. One mechanism to share progress and inform adjustments to the tactics that are developed during the implementation process is to identify and report on a set of key performance indicators (KPIs).
This list of potential KPIs were shared with the community and the Board of Trustees when the plan was approved. As we move into the implementation phase, the efforts of working groups and inputs from the community will help refine and focus the KPIs that are posted on this website.
Examples of possible KPIs include:
- The Faculty will make recommendations for revising the academic curriculum by the start of the 2024 academic year.
- Increase the percent of students who engage in high-impact practices (including: internships, community engagement, study away, and entrepreneurship experiences) from 75% to 85%.
- Increase six-year student graduation rate from 90% to 93% (based on five-year rolling average).
- Increase graduate job placement/grad school enrollment/fellowship participation from 90% to 95% as reported within 12 months of graduation.
- Increase employee satisfaction as expressed in results of campus climate surveys.
- Increase representation of historically excluded people of color among our domestic student, faculty, and staff populations.
- Increase the (five-year average) admission yield rate from 23% to 28% by the year 2030.
- Leverage the coming sesquicentennial to build momentum for a capital campaign with an ambitious fundraising goal (e.g. $200-300M) and increased alumni participation in giving.
- Build a new residence hall.
- Meet enrollment, discount rate, and expenditure growth targets.
- Generate a positive operating outcome to support reinvestment in the college.
- Engage in a zero-based budgeting process to realign the college expenditure base with the identified strategic initiatives and foundational imperatives.
