Learning, Community, and Engagement
We understand that this time is new and strange for many of us. Our hope for this environment is to facilitate learning and community. We hope that you find true joy and human connection in this space.

Community Recognition Awards Each spring, the Macalester community comes together to recognize the individual students, organizations, staff, and faculty who have made meaningful contributions to the Macalester co-curricular experience. It is important that we pause to honor these contributions and collectively celebrate one another’s accomplishments. All faculty, staff, and students are invited to submit nominations each year and should watch for information in March each year with details.
- Presidential Leadership Award for Outstanding Seniors
- The Hamre Award
- The Servant-Leader Award
- The Ann Bolger Vision Award
- The Civil Discourse Award
Although we will not have the opportunity to gather in person this year, nominees and recipients will be recognized and celebrated on the Community Recognition Awards website.

Digital Code of Conduct or Netiquette - Include Pronouns in the name you use to sign into Google Meet/Zoom: including pronouns can assist with ensuring that we correctly refer to others while talking or texting within the chat box.
- Avoid Sarcasm: sarcasm can be really hard to decipher through text and people might not realize you are joking
- Avoid typing in ALL CAPS
- Respect the Opinions and Experiences of others: you don’t have to agree but it is important to recognize that people are entitled to have their own perspective on an issue
- Be Brief: people are less likely to engage in your thought if it is a longer response in relation to what others posted
- When referring to an older comment provide a brief context so others won’t have to go back to see what comment you are referring to
- No recording of virtual meetings/gatherings without the permission from all attendees
- No screenshots or copying of text from the chat box
- Reminder online participation should be similar to in-person programs/events.
- Please be mindful of what you are wearing, doing, and what is visible with the placement of your webcam.
