Research Fellowships
Macalester offers several research fellowships that students can apply for to support their summer research experience.
Jan Serie Fellowship
The Jan Serie Fellowship a student doing full time research during the summer in any area of science or math. Research may take place at Macalester or another site, but all proposals and projects require a Macalester faculty mentor/sponsor who will participate and/or advise the student during the research experience. 2–3 awards are made each year.
Academic Exploration Fellowship
This fellowship provides support for students applying to conduct
research with faculty at Macalester or at another institution, in any academic area or discipline. There is a preference that the work intersect with the areas of biomedicine, health care, public health research or
practice, global health, or community health. 1–2 awards are made each year.
Kay Thomas Fund
Established by Kay A. Thomas, ’63, the Thomas IGC Fund supports the Institute for Global Citizenship and may be used to strengthen and expand existing programs and explore new initiatives that align with the mission and scope of the IGC. This scholarship is currently offered in support of students who wish to pursue international academic activities during the summer, whether via study away programs, internships, language study, research, etc.
