Introduction from Sydney Ellison

Dearest Gentle Readers,

I am so glad to have the opportunity to introduce myself in this January micro-issue of The Words. My name is Sydney Ellison, and I will be the newest addition to our esteemed editorial team. I am so pleased to be able to come along with all of you for all the great publications to come. A little about myself, I am a Junior English Literature major from Birmingham, Alabama. I complement my English major with a minor in Political Science, and a concentration in Legal Studies. As well as being an avid reader, as my choice in subjects might suggest, I am also a member of the Macalester Varsity Women’s Tennis Team and a regular at Macalester’s Swing Dance Club.

When I am not re-reading Their Eyes Were Watching God (my favorite book), I can be found painting, writing short-stories, listening to one of my extensive Spotify playlists, or baking. My favorite genre of books is science fiction or contemporary romance novels, and my favorite author is Octavia Butler.

This is my first semester back since last year, as I was abroad in London during the Fall semester. I am so glad to be back on-campus, as well as being able to share my love for The Words with all of you. I cannot wait to share all of the latest work and achievements coming out of our lovely English Department.

Keep an eye out for my name in the next coming issues, as always, we have many great things coming your way.

Thank you so much, and I see you all in our next issue,

Sydney
