The Words Welcomes New Staff

Alex Harrington ’19 & Jen Katz ’19

Welcome back to students, faculty, and staff alike! Outside may be cold, but in the English Department we have nothing but warm reunions and welcomes. This spring, we have the pleasure of welcoming new Social Media Strategist Malcolm Cooke ’21 and Newsletter Editor Sophie Hilker ’20 to The Words team. Learn a little more about them below.

Malcolm Cooke '21

Malcolm Cooke ’21 is a sophomore English Literature and Media and Cultural Studies Major. He grew up in Los Angeles, California and what does he think he’s doing here, in this weather? He has been tasked with filling the position of Social Media Strategist by creating an extremely sophisticated algorithm to discover the exact millisecond a relevant meme should be posted. He also enjoys horror movies and large dogs.

Sophie Hilker '20

Sophie Hilker ’20 is a junior Creative Writing major with a minor in Political Science and a concentration in Legal Studies. She is from La Crosse, Wisconsin, home of the World’s Largest Six Pack of beer, one of the largest Oktoberfest celebrations in the world outside of Germany, and formerly held the title for most bars per capita. Depending on which way the wind is blowing, you can either smell the bread factory or the brewery. All of this has given Sophie a distaste for beer, but a great taste in mixed drinks (she is happy to play bartender for you if you are of age!). She enjoys eating potatoes of all shapes, sizes, and varieties, dissecting the legal reasoning behind Supreme Court decisions, and oversharing.
