by Ahlaam Abdulwali ’25

This past week, we checked in with English department faculty and students to see what they’ve accomplished this semester. We are so lucky to have such talented people in our department, and we have a long list of accolades this month! Take the time to congratulate your professors and peers in person!

Leena Gowrisankaran ‘28 had an opinion piece published in the Wall Street Journal! She wrote this piece for an assignment in Professor James Dawes’ “Writing to Change Minds” course. Congrats, Leena!

Professor Sarah Ghazal Ali’s book, Theophanies won the Great Lakes College Association New Writers Award for Poetry! Theophanies is an incredible, well-awarded collection! Congrats, Professor Ali!

Professor Penelope Geng was invited to give the Hudson Strode endowed lecture for the English department at the University of Alabama-Tuscaloosa! Professor Geng gave her talk, titled “The Mad Butler of Gray’s Inn: New Archives for Researching Law, Drama, and Disability in Early Modern London” on February 11, 2025. Congrats, Professor Geng!

Professor Coral Lumbley has been named a Member of the Institute for Advanced Studies in Princeton, NJ!
