Get Involved with the Macalester Theater and Dance Department This Fall —Exciting Opportunities Await You!
Are you interested in exploring performance, design, or the behind-the-scenes magic of theater and dance? We invite you to join us in a vibrant semester of creativity, collaboration, and community in the Theater and Dance Department!
On Friday, September 5, the first Friday of classes, we will host our annual Theater and Dance Open House at 5:00 PM in the Mainstage Theater! Come meet the THDA community, tour our creative spaces, and chat with our faculty. This is a great way to connect and learn more about what we do. We’d love to meet you!
This fall, the department will produce several exciting and dynamic works—and we want you to be part of them!
Interested in Performing?
Mark your calendar for the auditions for the Fall 2025 Productions on Saturday, September 6 and Sunday, September 7 in the Mainstage Theater (T121). No matter your experience level, we encourage all interested students to audition. Check back here for the link to sign up for a 10 minute time slot and more details.
Prefer Working Behind the Scenes?
Not interested in being on stage? There are plenty of ways to participate behind the scenes! Join our production teams and gain hands-on experience in stagecraft—help bring stories to life through lighting, props, costumes, sound, video projection, and stage management. These technical and creative roles are essential to every production and offer a fantastic opportunity to build skills and collaborate with a passionate team.

Years after Sherlock Holmes’s mysterious disappearance at the Falls of Reichenbach, three men arrive at a Scottish asylum, each claiming to be the famous detective. The asylums’ director, psychiatrist Dr. Evans, summons Holmes’ assistant Dr. John Watson to discern if they are a fraud or if one of them is the real Sherlock Holmes. In a plot filled with twists and turns, and mysterious characters such as Moriarty, Inspector Patterson, and The Woman, Holmes and Watson chronicles Dr. Watson’s thrilling quest to find out whether or not his enigmatic companion is alive–and if not, who is the murderer?
